Offline Translator (working title)

Not yet released. This application is in development. It has not been submitted to App Store review, it is not available for download, and no release date has been set. The name above is a working title.
What it is
A translation app for iPhone and iPad in which the translation itself runs on the device. You type or paste text, and the phone does the work. There is no request to a translation server, so there is no copy of your text on one.
That design has an obvious cost — an on-device model is smaller than one running in a data centre — and an obvious benefit. It works on a plane, in a foreign country with no data plan, and in situations where sending the text somewhere would not be acceptable: a contract clause, a medical letter, a private message.
Design commitments
These are constraints we are building to, not features we are claiming to have shipped. The same commitments appear in the app's privacy policy.
Translation happens on the device
The text you translate is processed locally and is not transmitted to us or to any third party for translation. There is no translation server in the design.
Usable in airplane mode
Once the app and its language data are installed, translation works with the network switched off entirely.
No account
No sign-up, no email address, no phone number. There is no account to create, so there is nothing for us to hold.
Downloads carry no content
If a language pack is downloaded, that is an ordinary file download. Your text is not attached to it, and the request does not describe what you intend to translate.

What is not on this page
There are no screenshots, no App Store link, no benchmark figures and no list of supported languages here, because the application has not been released and those details are not settled. They will be published when they are true.
